I'm Amanda Walls, graphic designer, illustrator, painter, and the hand behind Adroitella Art and Design. Based in Colorado Springs, I work with clients locally and across the US, across acrylic and oils, graphite, Prismacolor colored pencils, digital, and mixed media.
I didn't have a single dramatic moment that pulled me toward art. I just started, fell in love, and kept coming back. What I didn't expect was that the moment that would change everything for me wouldn't be one of joy, but one of grief.
When I lost my German Shepherd, Octavius, I was in the middle of an Illustration class and decided to draw him, large, on a 20×30 illustration board. I had always doubted my ability to do realism. I told myself it wasn't something I could do. But somewhere inside that grief, with a pencil in my hand and his face in my memory, something unlocked. The portrait came out beautifully, more realistic than anything I believed I was capable of.
That piece became the foundation of everything. In healing from losing him, I discovered a skill I didn't know I had. Pet portraits, people portraits, paintings, brand identities, it all grew from that one drawing of Octavius. I still consider those pieces of him to be some of the work I am most proud of.
I don't believe in limiting myself to one niche. I put the same obsessive attention and care into every subject and medium I work in, because I think excellence doesn't have to live in a narrow box. When you work with me, you're getting someone who takes what they do seriously, and who genuinely loves every piece they create.
